Killzone 2 Patched

A little late on the draw with this news, at it happened on Tuesday, but Killzone 2 has been updated again to address further user feedback.

Looking at the list of changes, I’m most relieved to see the fix that has been made to the auto aim exploit, not because I have been a constant victim of it. I’m actually just happy to finally see what the exploit was and am glad to know that I was not accidentally using it when I shot down my enemies without using my guns’ sights.

Killzone 2, while it has the iron sight aiming method, really is more of a run and gun style shooter, where shooting from the hip, in short bursts, is actually more effective than aiming down the barrel. I think most of that has to do with the additional feedback you get from the reticule turning red with each hit when aiming from the hip. Iron sighting doesn’t give you any indication, that I know of, of bullets hitting their targets, so occasionally you can empty an entire clip on someone and he or she’ll still be alive because actually, none of your bullets hit him or her.

Aiming from the hip, for the most part, that’s how I play Killzone 2, but upon hearing about some auto aiming glitch, I thought maybe that’s how my aim was so good. Turns out, the actual glitch involved tapping the aim button repeatedly (COD style controls, with toggle aim set to off) to essentially lock on to an opponent. What a relief.

Activision revealed recently that on its first weekend, Map Pack 1 for Call of Duty: World at War was downloaded 1 million times across PSN and Xbox Live, setting a new record of Live for most first week downloads. It makes me wonder how much was spent in making the map pack, but more importantly, it gives me hope that another map pack might actually see the light of day. Need more Nazi Zombies.

Map Pack 1 featured three new maps, no of which I know anything about, because the coolest part of the package was the inclusion of a new Nazi Zombies map, which has completely changed up the “bunker down in building and survive” gameplay introduced with the original Nazi Zombies, by adding in Perks Machines that give your characters special abilities such as Quick Revives or faster reload speeds. It’s awesome.

Our record so far is round 20. It would have been higher, but somehow a crawler managed to kill me with one hit, after having failed to do so with the fifty some hits prior, leaving me with only a pistol. Not much help to my buddies at the end…
