In case you missed it, Qore, PSN’s exclusive digital magazine accidentally released its 13th episode over the weekend containing hard confirmation that the PSP Go, a redesigned PSP, is in fact real.
- 3.8" screen
- 43% lighter than previous version
- 16 GB on-board flash memory
- Bluetooth support
- No UMD drive
- Memory Stick Micro support
Thinking about it now, the Qore leak may have been intentional. I mean, how does that happen? Someone at PlayStation Network accidentally hit a switch that only happened to release one piece of new content to the PlayStation Store, on a weekend? If the weekly store updates are any indication, clearly it’s not as easy as flipping a switch.
My guess is that they leaked it early so that the, obviously, polarizing effect of the announcement wouldn’t pull down the rest of their presentation. People wanted touchscreen, a second analog, and more, and since that wasn’t going to happen, this kind of tempers our expectations.
Plus, would the announcement of PSP Go at the press conference really have been that exciting? Chances are, it would have gone something like this:
"Ah, PSP Go. Check that one off."
"Worst kept secret ever." (Notice how we’ve seen that used in reference to a lot of stuff recently.)
and then the usual, no added analog, no touch, blah, blah, blah.
So, if I’m right, there should be more announcements coming at E3 that’ll kind of relate to the PSP Go but will be really exciting.
