You probably saw the PSP Go news yesterday. Judging from the coverage I saw yesterday, it looks like that was the only thing that happened Saturday.

Today though, Activision Blizzard, who will not be having an E3 press briefing, as they have left the ESA, is having an investors conference call. Let’s see what they’ve got going on!

Follow Gamespot’s live coverage here. If not, I’ll summarize when it’s over. Mostly they’ve just talked about how each of their big franchises is going to make a lot of money: Modern Warfare 2, Guitar Hero 5, Tony Hawk Ride, etc.

  • Battle.net 2.0 will Launch Alongside Starcraft II, Beta This Summer
  • Mike Morhaime says "we will soon be launching Starcraft II."
This is the thing I’ve been waiting to hear from the conference call. I wish he’d been a little more specific, but I guess this is okay for now.
  • Microsoft XBOX Press Briefing Moved Up 5 Minutes
According to Geoff Keighley’s Twitter, Microsoft moved up their conference to make room for a last minute addition. Crazy, end of press conference surprise nab? Sounds likely.

Mmmm..

E309 is nearly upon us. It’s my Superbowl, so there’s going to be a lot of news, or just game talk really, coming from me as I read the news from the show floor. Storpi Snacks are semi-digested (ewww) mini news articles, mashed into single posts so I don’t flood Savepoint Hype will one liner articles. It’s delicious, and it’s only 99 cents.

Nah, I kid, it’s free. So, if you happen to work in a place where obviously not work related sites are blocked, come to Savepoint Hype at Storpi.com for your workday, E3 coverage. I can almost guarantee you they haven’t blocked my site. Not by name, anyways.

  • Square Enix Bringing FFXIII, NIER, Front Mission Evolved
    NIER Front Mission Evolved
Besides the obvious, it looks like Square Enix has a few more multiplatform releases to show off. From Kotaku, NIER is an action game from developer cavia and Front Mission Evolved is a third person (robot?) shooter from developer Double Helix. Interesting.
  • XSEED Bringing Half-Minute Hero, Lunar Remake
yuusha_30 Knowing that XSEED is showing these titles at E3 in itself isn’t really that exciting. What’s cool about this news is that it means we in the US will get to play the insane sounding Half-Minute Hero (Yuusha 30). It’s an RPG for PSP. The story goes: some evil overlord has triggered the end of the world. Yep. Triggered. Past tense. With 30 seconds left before armageddon, you must do the RPG hero things: level up, get money, buy equipment, and save us all from destruction. It’s fun.
Basically all you really do is move around the world map and choose what things to buy. The combat during the random encounters is all automatic, but you can use one healing item, if you have one, to effect the outcomes. There are also places where you can restore your 30 seconds on the clock, but this becomes increasingly expensive each time you do it.
Half-Minute Hero is quite a good time, especially if you’ve lost the free time and will to play through 40 RPG epics. I understand that there’s also other 30 second hero stories as well. One with a princess venturing out to retrieve something, etc.
  • Dragon Age: Origins Release Set: October 20
Bioware’s new RPG is set to come out for PS3, PC, and XBOX 360.
  • ICO Coming to LittleBigPlanet?
Hmm… Not really news yet, but the picture is cute.
    ICO, is that you?
  • Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer is in Halo 3:ODST
Tricia Helfer as #6 in BSG BSG fans are Halo fans, right? Well, some may become fans as Tricia Helfer announced last night that she’d be involved with the upcoming Halo 3:ODST as a character named “Dare.”
When I first heard the news, for some reason I had the thought that she might be playing one of the shock troopers themselves, and the appealing part would be that it would have a semi Metroid feel to it with a female in futuristic body armor. The truth, however, is that we don’t know anything about her role. She couldn’t give any details, so we’ll just have to wait until the Microsoft press briefing. I don’t think she’ll probably look like that in the game though. –>
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum Release Set: August 25
So that’s what late summer means. After playing the FreeFlow Combat demo for this at various stores in my area (yep, I went to all of them), Batman: Arkham Asylum jumped, nay, flew to the top of my most wanted list. The glowing previews are also helping out. Best Batman game ever. Call it.
  • MotorStorm: Pacific Rift DLC to Double the Tracks, Rides, Modes
Click for more details Great news for fans of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift who’ve been clamoring for more tracks and vehicles, Expansion: SPEED and Expansion: ADRENALINE have just been announced and will be shown at E3. No pricing yet, but I’d say probably $9.99 each, given that each contains 3 new tracks and more. We’ll see.
  • Lego Indiana Jones: The Adventure Continues Announced for Fall
Apparently, it covers the events from the latest film in the series. Yay (?)
  • The Matrix Online Goes Offline July 31st
We barely knew thee… Actually the MMO went on for quite a while. I just never played it. Expect the machines to kill everyone on the last day or at least try to.
  • Phil Harrison Steps Down as President of Infogrames / Atari (Now, just Atari)
Cutbacks, selling the distribution business in Europe to Namco Bandai, cutting games – a lot has been going on at Atari. They’ve been trying to streamline their business by focusing mainly on the American market and more efficient, subscription-based, or web games. As such, former head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison will be stepping down from President to serve as a non-executive Director of the Group. Jeff Lapin, formerly at THQ, will be taking Phil Harrison’s place.
What does this mean for the gamers that just game? Probably not that much, but seeing as how Phil Harrison is a pretty popular guy, it’s always nice to know what he’ll be up to.
  • Battlefield 1943 “Coral Sea” Map Unlocking to be Community Effort
According to Joystiq, to unlock the 4th map, “Coral Sea” in the upcoming downloadable, online, multiplayer, shooter Battlefield 1943, players will have to rack up a cumulative 43 million kills on the maps available at launch. So, if a million people buy the game, each of us will only need to get 43 kills. That’s not so bad.
Click for the Coral Sea Trailer
“Coral Sea” features two aircraft carriers covered with pilotable F4U Corsair and Zero fighters you’ll need for the new game mode “Air Superiority” that also comes with the bonus map as well. Dogfights ahoy!
Quickly glancing at the comments, people seem to think that the Xbox Live crowd will get this unlocked faster due to the larger installed base on that console. However, I think that PS3 owners might be more receptive to an online-only game, seeing as how Warhawk did so well. How `bout it 360 gamers? Race you to 43 million?
Battlefield 1943 comes out in June on PSN and XBLM for $15.

MotorStorm: PR DLC “Lunatics Unite!” Adding to the free titles updates MotorStorm : Pacific Rift has received this year, the PlayStation Blog just announced that more downloadable content will be revealed at E3.

The two new packs, Expansion: SPEED and Expansion: ADRENALINE, seem pretty hefty as far as DLC expansion packs go. From the PS Blog:

Expansion: ADRENALINE is racing along beside it, neck-and-neck, and bringing with it even MORE content! 3 MORE new tracks (Reefrunner, Brimstone and Hollowed Earth), 5 new track variants, 4 more exclusive new race machines (each with 3 liveries to choose from), 6 brand new characters (each sporting 3 different costumes), and a whole big fat stash of fresh new paint jobs for your existing vehicles.”
