Words cannot not express my excitement over the news that Starcraft II is coming out. No one even knows when, and already I can’t wait. I can’t even remember the last time a PC, no, any game has made me anticipate its release so.
I first played Starcraft some eight or nine years ago. It was the first strategy game I had ever seen, and while I was amazed by the graphics and huge number of units under my command, I wasn’t really that entertained. A year or so passed. Some people in my class were appointed to set up the networked computers in the school’s computer lab. Of course, someone decided to put Starcraft on the computers, and after that, I can remember days where we’d just stay at the school till late, playing eight-player, four on four Hunters games over and over again. “AGAIN!”
Sure, we got on Battle.net later on, and when we all went off to college, we could still get together on the weekends for a couple dozen games. But nothing could quite compare to the hilarity of playing together in the same room. Someone would initiate a nuclear strike and then, “Where is it? Where is it?!?” he’d say to throw off his target. “BOOOOOM!!!”
The player with only a lone zealot warrior running to the aid of an ally. “There’s a heeee-ro, if you search inside heart. You don’t have to be afraid of what you are.”
Getting probes massacred by an invading army; “THEY’RE WORKERS, NOT WARRIORS!”
Watching 90 zealots march slowly into your base (no speed upgrade) and know that even though you’re well defended, you’re screwed. “Whoa. Too many.”
Good times.
