First image of Playstation EyeThanks to Kotaku, the word on the new EyeToy is out. Dubbed simply, Playstation Eye, this new webcam for PS3 supports better resolutions, a multidirectional microphone, and software that’ll let users capture video and photos directly onto the PS3 HDD and add effects to them and stuff. Expect the next wave of gesture controlled games to come to PS3 sometime after the Playstation Eye’s summer release in the US and UK.

[Press Release]

Now, I have some questions.

  1. Will the Playstation Eye be backwards compatible with currently available EyeToy applications? SingStar PS3 doesn’t come out in the States till the fall, so if I buy this, I want to be able to use it on SingStar Pop. Eye will support the EyeToy resolution, albeit at a higher framerate. Possible?
  2. When’s Eye of Judgement going to come out in the Western world? The Japanese release of Playstation Eye will be bundled with the game. How will we get it?
  3. How much?
  4. Is this the plan for chatting over PSN? The press release touts chatting without a headset, and with noise reduction tech and such, could we all end up using Eye as our main means of PSN communication?

Anyone know? Leave a comment.

GPS on PSP. When are the States going to get this?Boktai, created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame, was a game in which a player used actual sunlight, from our sun (the real sun, just making sure we’re clear), to burn vampires back to where ever it is they come from. Strange? You see, Kojima wanted not only to make a game that worked on a handheld but to make a game that would only work on a handheld. Admittedly, it would be hard to get an Xbox and TV outside for a little sunshine.

That was several years ago.

Blue Dragon for only $20!

Play-Asia’s deal for the week is Blue Dragon for $20.

Yeah, that Blue Dragon. The Xbox 360 game that actually brought up system sales in Japan. The game from the creator of Final Fantasy, the creator of Dragonball, and the composer of the Final Fantasy games.

It’s too bad that the game is only compatible with Japanese, Asian or “suped up” (read: modded) 360s, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this right now. If you have a special 360, hit up Play-Asia by clicking the picture. Your welcome.
