Nice Work.

A fan made this? Click for more at the Blizzard Fan Art Program pages.

It’s been a long time since I’ve strayed away from the safe confines of the six or seven sites I see eveyday.

Venturing forth today, into the unfamiliar, I find that Blizzard has some of the best fan artists I’ve ever seen. They’ve got some pretty amazing stuff on their fanart page. Just look at the sample thumbnail I “borrowed,” and while you’re there, click on it to check out the Blizzard Fan Art Program pages.

What Did I Think of Sigma?

Sigma's going to ROCK!

PS3 owners, go download Ninja Gaiden Sigma. If you’re not on PSN, get on PSN. If you don’t have an ISP, then get an ISP, and so on.

When Ninja Gaiden came out for the original Xbox a few years ago, it was a great game in it’s own right. Even today, it’s still one of the better looking games out there. Sigma takes all of that one step further.

Eye to Crush. Eww….

Friday, April 27th, 2007

What? No. Zoe Mode, who is(are?) working on Crush for PSP, is also working on the Playstation Eye back end software. I assume that means the EyeCreate software that lets you edit and add effects to the stuff you capture with the camera.

Apparently, even though the videos and pics will be on your hard drive, you won’t be able to access them via the XMB, so no copying to an external device. Sad. The upside, though, is that they’re saying a YouTube-style service will let you upload you videos onto PSN for all to see.

Looks like Web 2.0 is in full effect. Fun times are ahead. What do you want to follow? (more…)

Not HD, but Pretty Slick. PlaystationEye!

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

First image of Playstation EyeThanks to Kotaku, the word on the new EyeToy is out. Dubbed simply, Playstation Eye, this new webcam for PS3 supports better resolutions, a multidirectional microphone, and software that’ll let users capture video and photos directly onto the PS3 HDD and add effects to them and stuff. Expect the next wave of gesture controlled games to come to PS3 sometime after the Playstation Eye’s summer release in the US and UK.

[Press Release]

Now, I have some questions.

  1. Will the Playstation Eye be backwards compatible with currently available EyeToy applications? SingStar PS3 doesn’t come out in the States till the fall, so if I buy this, I want to be able to use it on SingStar Pop. Eye will support the EyeToy resolution, albeit at a higher framerate. Possible?
  2. When’s Eye of Judgement going to come out in the Western world? The Japanese release of Playstation Eye will be bundled with the game. How will we get it?
  3. How much?
  4. Is this the plan for chatting over PSN? The press release touts chatting without a headset, and with noise reduction tech and such, could we all end up using Eye as our main means of PSN communication?

Anyone know? Leave a comment.

GPS on PSP. When are the States going to get this?Boktai, created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame, was a game in which a player used actual sunlight, from our sun (the real sun, just making sure we’re clear), to burn vampires back to where ever it is they come from. Strange? You see, Kojima wanted not only to make a game that worked on a handheld but to make a game that would only work on a handheld. Admittedly, it would be hard to get an Xbox and TV outside for a little sunshine.

That was several years ago. (more…)

Weekly Deal from Play-Asia.com!

Blue Dragon for only $20!

Play-Asia’s deal for the week is Blue Dragon for $20.

Yeah, that Blue Dragon. The Xbox 360 game that actually brought up system sales in Japan. The game from the creator of Final Fantasy, the creator of Dragonball, and the composer of the Final Fantasy games.

It’s too bad that the game is only compatible with Japanese, Asian or “suped up” (read: modded) 360s, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this right now. If you have a special 360, hit up Play-Asia by clicking the picture. Your welcome.

SingStar Needs Asian Songs!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Originally written on Playstation Underground SingStar forum:

So there’s been a little bit of talk out there about whether or not there’ll be Asian songs on the SingStar Store. Personally, I’ve always thought that it would be a great idea because arguably, karaoke as an activity is much more popular among Asian people.

Over the weekend, I got to see this in action with SingStar Pop and a bunch of people, mostly Chinese, both guys and girls. After the Houston / Jazz game, someone suggested karaoke, and everyone seemed pretty excited. (more…)

Maybe You Had to Have Been There?

“Which of these Hamlets is in Hungarian?”

“What? Go! Hmmm…. Well, it’s not C. How come? Because C looks like Spanish. Oh yeah, the ‘es’s. Yeah, A looks like it has Spanish roots also, so either B or D. Might be B, but then it could be D. Why does D have random capital letters?

“D is Klingon; it’s B.”

“What the #*@&?”

“Yay, we WIN!”

Well, I guess I just branded myself a bit there, but I’m sure that a lot of people would recognize romanized phonetic Klingon is they’d seen it before. It wasn’t that weird. Besides, it was a great way to cap of a huge Cranium win from behind. By the way, someone needs to go and make some Taboo expansion card packs.
