Woohoo! Explosions! Crackdown Impressions

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Crackdown: Agent in the SunI love that this new era of game consoles lets us try before we buy. Crackdown is going to rock! If open-world games (Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row) are all about freedom, then Crackdown adds a whole new level of it, namely, freedom of movement. I’d say this game is Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction with guns and then some. A skills level up system lets your character eventually leap over buildings and such, like:

Agility: Run like the wind and leap skyscrapers. Yeah. Awesome.

Strength: Chuck trucks around. Think about it.

Marksmanship: I guess you can target specific body parts faster. Not that exciting, yet. (Probably)

Explosives: Ever see a game that lets you actually stun people by hitting them in the head with a well thrown grenade? It really makes it harder for them to run away. Blast radius increases as you level up.

Driving skill: Agent(that’s you) cars get faster and easier to handle. What’s cool is the cars physically change, like Transformers or Cyber Formula cars, as you level up, right before your eyes.

Check out the trailer by hitting the, “read the rest of this entry,” link, and if none of this peaks your interest, don’t forget that the initial shipment of Crackdown comes with Halo 3 beta invitations.

Hello world!

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

First test on Wordpress 2.1 I must say that the admin interface is a lot prettier than the last version I saw. Very nice. I especially like some of the little touches, like how the deleted posts gradually fade out of existence right before your eyes. It used to be that (I think the last version of Wordpress I worked with was 1.5) deleting comments would cause the page to reload with the comments removed. Not nearly as slick as Wordpress 2.1. Very nice indeed.

I am looking forward to playing around with the various plug-ins available for this blog software. I am also curious to see how easily I will be able to combat spam.

Extreme Conditions (Lost Planet for 360)

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

The drought sure ended fast with Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions coming out so soon after the holiday season. It seems that the old model of only releasing blockbuster games in the last months of the year is slowly becoming less and less relevant.

So why are we excited about Lost Planet, you ask? First of all, it’s a really good looking game. The details in everything are just amazing. The snow looks especially nice, which is good since you’ll see a lot of it. See, the game takes place on a frozen planet inhabited by these bug like creatures that secrete this stuff that your protective suit can use for heat energy to heal you and keep you from freezing to death.

If that strange sci-fi setting doesn’t excite you, the gameplay will. (more…)

LOST PLANET SHIPS 1 MILLION!

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Capcom has shipped two games for Xbox 360, and now both of them have shipped at least one million units. First, it was Dead Rising, now it’s Lost Planet. Isn’t that crazy? The game has been out for less than two months and already it’s platinum.
There’s two ways we can look at this. One, Capcom games do really well on Microsoft’s systems, or two, Capcom games, at least their next-gen ones, do really well.
Personally, I think it the second one. Not to be a hater, but I think that people are just starving for Capcom style action games with really good graphics and the fact that these games happen to be on the 360 has nothing to do with it.
Agree?
